Is it too early to predict who will win it all?

Las Vegas Betting Lines and Odds for D3 Coed Summer Season

It might just be week two of the 2017 Summer Friday Night Coed league, but can we predict a winner? Is it possible to pick a winner or even fair to everyone to try and pick a winner this early? If Las Vegas sports-books laid odds for D3 Coed 2017 Summer League in Grass Valley, what would they be?

There might be a few teams that are clearly above the rest and will be playing for the division win and the t-shirts. And that division winner may not be the team to take the trophy home as anything can happen in the next two months as it is Slow-Pitch Softball. We will know before October 6, 2017 who will be in the playoff picture and who will not. But do we already know now?

As the umpire of the league, and also the Coed President, I should not be making predictions or bets on how the league will end up — not that there is any place that would take my bet not to mention I don't gamble — but as a stats fan, baseball fan, and a knowledge base history of watching these teams play in the past, I find enjoyment in seeing if I am correct or just blowing smoke out my ear. Kind of like fantasy sports. Makes watching the games and players a little differently.

I have my predictions of who will win the league and who will make it to the playoffs. Since I have no money on it — not betting or telling anyone — if the outcome comes out as I predicted, am I still effecting it? Not if no one knows what my predictions are. Who am I going to brag too? Myself? And who would believe me if I wait to say something at the end of the season?

I hope I am wrong about my predictions (you will never know what they are). I know Public Enemas, Team Briar Patch, and The Spirit Animals might be newer teams with inexperienced players, but their future is not told yet. Their skill, team play, and confidence will progress with each game, if not to make the season more interesting, but to have more fun being competitive.

What are your predictions? I know you think you know, but do you really? Send me an email and I will post them here.

Game One: 6:00 pm

It has been a few years since I have seen Fiedler Construction and most of the players that I knew are still playing. They are not new to Litton field, but it has been a while since they played there. Fiedler Construction almost had to forfeit but Paragon Hardwood (more on them later), found a non rostered player for them to sign and play at third base.

Paragon Hardwood, used to be Brew Crew during the spring season, found a wonderful sponsor for the summer. They played under a different name a few years ago, so I have seen Dave Hawkins and others on the team, and again, they are not new to Litton, just have not played there in a while (I heard the groans and moans).

Paragon Hardwood takes a 2 run lead in the first inning with a 3 - 1 score. Fiedler scored 4 in the second, 1 in the third, and 3 in the fourth allowing only one run in the bottom of the third leading it 9 - 3 after four innings. Paragon scores 8 in the bottom of the fifth making it 12 - 9. In the top of the sixth, Fiedler only scores 2 runs and with no more time on the clock Paragon wins 12 - 11.

Game Two: 7:00 pm

Team Briar Patch comes in to face off with Paragon hoping the heat and tough game Paragon had against Fiedler would give them and edge. It did not as the experienced team help Team Briar Patch to only 1 run all game. (as an observer of the game, the umpire remember, I saw so many small mistakes that turned huge on the score aboard against Team Briar Patch, I know if they clean those up, and they will, the outcome will be much different).

Game Three: 8:00 pm

Team Briar Patch with another double header in consecutive weeks plays against the Bad News Beers who came alive this week scoring 12 and allowing only 2 runs all game.

Game Four: 9:00 pm

Bad News Beers second double header themselves meet up against Public Enemas who can play, but are getting used to their team dynamics — only a matter of time before they will be causing teams trouble.

Bad News Beers and Public Enemas scored 2 runs in the first inning and none in the second. Bad News Beers scored 2 in the third, but Public Enemas took the lead in the bottom of the third with a score of 5 - 4. Bad news Beers scored 2 more in the top of the fourth and allowed 1 run in the bottom of the inning making the game a tie 6 - 6. Going into the sixth inning with time running down, Bad News Beers scored 4 and shut down Public Enemas in the bottom half, wining 10 - 6.

Thank You for allowing me to have a front row seat to watch you have fun, play ball, and see some exciting plays and watch you grow as a player, a team, and a softball community! - gerald martin davenport - WNCSSA Coed President
